Why is the flag appears after an F1 race is a cadres?
In medieval England, the checkered flag symbolizes a place where beer or ale was able to buy [1]. Not a big jump from there to connect to the purchase of alcohol to relax at the end of the workday, nor is it a stretch too far to say the checkered flag then was more associated to a task that is the original meaning. Then, if passed into general usage as the signal to finish what I was doing (very possible when you think of the difficulty of voice communication over long distances outdoors or in noisy industrial environments), then natural that the early horse and car racers who have used it to indicate the end the race.
